Teen Group @ TBI
NELA Teen Group
Twice a month. A space they’ll never forget.
Between school, sports, college prep, and everything else, life moves fast for today’s teens. That’s why the NELA Teen Group is designed to be worth every minute — twice a month, 8th–12th graders gather to exhale, connect, and explore what it means to be Jewish in today’s world.
What Happens at NELA Teen Group?
We start together — all grades in one lively room — tackling the big topics that matter most: identity, justice, tradition, politics, history, and the issues shaping our lives right now. The conversation is real, engaging, and fueled by the perspectives of teens from across Northeast LA.
Then we break into age-specific groups for even deeper discussion. Led by skilled facilitators, these smaller circles give teens space to:
- Speak openly without judgment
- Ask questions they can’t always ask elsewhere
- Listen, support, and learn from one another
- Get practical advice for navigating teenage life today
And because good food makes everything better, each session includes a delicious dinner and dessert — plus time to schmooze, laugh, and just hang out.
Why It’s Different
This isn’t Religious School. There’s no homework, no lectures, and no “right” answers. It’s a space built by and for teens — where they can be themselves, make friends across schools, and discover how Jewish values and community can show up in everyday life.
A Powerful Partnership
For the first time ever, the Silverlake Independent JCC and TBI are teaming up to make the NELA Teen Group bigger, better, and more connected than ever before. Together, we’re building a vibrant teen community that will last for years to come.
Who Can Join?
- Teens in 8th–12th grade
- From any background — all are welcome
- No prior involvement with TBI or SIJCC required
When & Where
