On June 3 2019, long-time Board Member and environmentalist Jerry Schneider flipped a switch and the newly installed solar photovoltaic system at Temple Beth Israel was connected to the grid and producing electrical energy that will reduce the temple’s green house gas emissions. With the support of his wife Gloria, Jerry started his work to move TBI on a greener path back in 2004 with the plan for a mostly California native garden, that has helped to reduce water and other resource usage related to maintaining our landscape. We hope our efforts will be an inspiration to other congregations and citizens in Highland Park, just like others have inspired us to go solar.
