Adult Learning at TBI

At Temple Beth Israel, we believe that learning is for everyone — and that the best Torah study happens when we come together, ask good questions, and wrestle with our tradition side by side. Our adult education offerings are rooted in deep, authentic Jewish texts, brought to life in community. Our adult learning programs are all about making Jewish text study vibrant, rigorous, and accessible — wherever you are on your journey. For more information about our ongoing and special learning programs, email Rabbi Alex Weisz at rabbi.weisz@tbila.org.

Torah on Tap with Rabbi Weisz
Tuesdays at 7:00pm | Good Housekeeping
Join us for Torah study with a twist! Every Tuesday night, we gather at Good Housekeeping, a cozy neighborhood bar, for Torah on Tap. Bring your questions, your thirst for conversation (and a good drink!), and explore the weekly Torah portion through the eyes of classical commentators like Rashi, Ibn Ezra, and Ramban — plus a few modern insights, too. All sources are provided in English translation, so no Hebrew background is required — just curiosity and an open mind.

Mishmar: Our Open Beit Midrash
Thursdays at 7:00pm | TBI
Dive deeper each week at Mishmar, our open Beit Midrash (house of study). Bring your own learning project or sit down with others to study traditional Jewish texts — Torah, Talmud, commentaries, and more. Our robust stacks include the full Rabbinic and Biblical canon, classical commentaries, works on Jewish thought, prayer, current issues, novels, and more — all available and accessible to everyone.

Informal study groups are always encouraged — whether you’re practicing Hebrew reading, learning Torah trope, exploring the weekly Torah portion, or tackling the daily page of Talmud. Whether you’re new to Jewish learning or an old hand, you’ll find a table, a chevruta (study partner), and a warm welcome. Rabbi Weisz is available at all times to answer any questions and provide guidance in your learning journey!
