Money Stuff

Temple Beth Israel is a small institution and all contributions we get, for whatever reason and no matter the amount, are important to us and are used very carefully.

How To Send Us Money

You can pay by PayPal account, by credit card, or by check. For High Holiday services, you can pay with cash or check at the door. Checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 421186, Los Angeles, CA 90042. Note that PayPal handles and processes credit card payments, not Temple Beth Israel. PayPal opens in a separate window.

Temple Beth Israel is a California non-profit corporation, incorporated in 1923. Memberships and donations are tax-deductible.

If you pay through PayPal, PayPal will try to get you to sign up with them. If you want to use your credit card without signing up for PayPal, look for "No PayPal account? Use your credit card or bank account (where available)."

If you buy a shopping cart item and want to use your credit card instead of PayPal, you have to click "View Cart," then "Proceed to Checkout," then look for "No PayPal account? Use your credit card or bank account (where available)."

One more thing — when you're looking at the shopping cart, you can change the number of items ordered if you want, by typing in the correct number and clicking "Update Cart." If you make a mistake and want to remove an item from the shopping cart, change the number ordered to zero (0) and click "Update cart."

Thank you very much.

Susan Goldberg, Rabbinic Intern

We are proud and very happy to announce that Susan Goldberg, rabbinic student at the Academy for Jewish Religion, California, has agreed to be our rabbinic intern at Temple Beth Israel, beginning in July, 2010. Susan has led our Family Shabbat services and High Holidays 2009, and is well-loved by the congregation.

An ongoing rabbinic presence is a wonderful thing for us, but it will be a very significant expense for a small congregation like ours. Please consider making a contribution to our Rabbi Fund so that we can enjoy Susan's presence without stress.

Contribute whatever you want.

Passover Seder 2010

Mark Strunin and Cantor Ken Rothstein will lead us in another memorable Passover Seder on Tueday, March 30 at 5:30 p.m. This year we are charging $42.00 per adult for a complete catered Seder brisket or vegetarian meal. Children 6–12 are $21.00 and children birth through age 6 are free. (For technical reasons, your credit card will be charged 1¢ for each free child's ticket.)

If you want to come but the cost presents a hardship, please contact a temple officer.

Once you click on "Add to Cart," you will have a chance to adjust the quantities. To delete an item, adjust the quantity to zero. If you're looking at your shopping cart and want to add a different kind of ticket, click on "Continue shopping."

If you'd rather mail in a form, there's one here.

Membership

It is vital to the continued wellbeing and even the continued existence of the temple that people join. Membership is open to Jewish people who support our aims, and to families with at least one Jewish member. Interfaith families are specifically invited. We are inclusive and egalitarian. If you are interested in membership, visit us at any event, or call the temple at (323) 255-5416 or send e-mail to tbi@tbila.org.

Our dues schedule is, we feel, very reasonable. Here it is:

Membership CategoryBase
Membership
Building
Fund

Single$220$100$320
Senior Couple$145$100$245
Senior Single$75$100$175
Student$50$50

Membership includes High Holiday admission.

If these fees present a financial hardship, please call the temple at (323) 255-5416 or contact Chris, our treasurer, at treasurer@tbila.org and we will make arrangements to accommodate your needs.

Dedicate Prayerbooks with Bookplates

We offer the opportunity to have dedication bookplates glued into our prayerbooks. You can use the button below to add these dedicatory bookplates to your shopping cart.

Our siddur is the new edition of the Siddur Sim Shalom. We use these every week, rain or shine.

A prayerbook dedication costs twice chai. Chai means life in Hebrew, and its numerical value is 18, so each dedication is $36.00.

Our previous prayerbooks lasted well over 50 years, so if you dedicate a prayerbook, it will be seen by congregants for many years to come.

To dedicate a prayerbook, type your name and the dedication you want into the text boxes, select the kind of prayerbook you want to dedicate, and click Add to Cart. You will then be given the opportunity to specify the number of prayerbooks you want to dedicate. If you want additional different dedications, please return to this page and start over.

Donations and Other Payments

And how about this: If you want to donate money to Temple Beth Israel, you can send a check to our mailing address, P.O. Box 421186, Los Angeles, CA 90042, or you can use a credit card by clicking the button below. If you get trapped, use the Back button on your browser.

You can also use this button to pay for High Holiday admission, but you need to contact us first to make a reservation at tbila@tbila.org or (323) 255-5416.

Also, once you get to PayPal, please use the Item field to let us know what your payment or donation is for. The "Unit Price" field is the amount you're paying.

If you donate money in commemoration of the yortzayt (anniversary of the death) of a relative, include the person's name in the "Item" field and we will certainly read it from the bimah. Likewise for a happy event such as a birth or graduation.
