Latkes, Doughnuts and Really Tough Questions

Rabbi Robin Podolsky and Temple Member Bernard Rohrbacher will offer presentations and lead a rousing discussion about this beautiful, complicated holiday. And, of course, latkes and sufganyot will be involved.

Please join us at Temple Beth Israel of Highland Park and Eagle Rock for an afternoon of good food and good talk about the true meaning of Hanukah.  Were the Maccabees freedom fighters, reactionary fundamentalists, neither, or both?  What does it mean to say a great miracle happened there (but not here, not anymore)? When we light those candles with our families or on our own, just what are we celebrating? And…come to think of it….why isn’t Hanukah in our Bible anywhere?
