Our Shul on the Hill

tbitorahschool

A small, friendly, haimish*, inclusive, egalitarian independent neighborhood synagogue with roots in American Conservative Judaism.

At Temple Beth Israel, Clergy and Community collaborate to create meaningful Jewish experiences.

We are located in the historic neighborhood of Highland Park in Northeast Los Angeles, and we are a member of the Jewish Federation of the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys.

We've been around...

Temple Beth Israel was founded in 1929, and we have held Shabbat morning services every week since then. People come from around the corner to across the city! Congregants hail from the communities of Eagle Rock, Mt. Washington, Highland Park, Pasadena, South Pasadena, Silver Lake, Atwater Village, Glassell Park, Los Feliz, Echo Park, Downtown LA and beyond.

Everyone takes part.

Shabbat morning? We've been doing that for 90 years. Come join us at our very welcoming Shabbat Minyan Services. No Experience necessary. Our kiddush lunches following services are famous in these parts.

Heartfelt introspective services are your thing? Come to our First Friday services.

Kids of all ages are welcome at our potluck Family Second Friday services.

Jewish Education for all.

Got kids? Check out our Torah School.

Conversion? We host the Miller Intro to Judaism program.

Life long learner? You're in good company. Check out our Adult Education events.

We are a community of Jews from all walks of life.

Women participate fully in all activities. Children are welcome. So are single people and everyone else, from out-of-town guests to curious visitors. Interfaith and gay families are warmly welcomed.

Ready to join? Apply for membership.

We believe that who so chooses should have a Jewish experience, and with that in mind, we strive always to make membership affordable for all!
